Y10 deadline
The date for 3 completed sheets of design ideas has been set for 19th June 09. Most of you should have no difficulties so you can also consider the disassembly aspect of the project. For this you should look to carefully take apart a lamp and then photograph the various parts. This is primary research and will allow a deeper understanding of construction, materials and the wiring of a lighting system. Remember to unplug the lamp before taking it apart.
Y11 Exam 09
I have placed some of the notes made in class on to my blog. Also, the preparation sheet provided by AQA as a guide to some of the examination content is on the blog in case you have misplaced your copy. The 'Marketplace' lesson and the relevant notes are available and I will endeavour to submit more advice and help leading up to the exam in June. Good luck!
The major project commences for 10Y
The Y10 Res Mat pupils are producing their first page for their lighting/ipod dock major project. This should include both the Design situation and Design brief. Pupils will show the room layout and take a digital photograph of where the product is to be situated. This is to be completed and uploaded to your blog by 25th April 09.

Y11 Development stage
We have now reached the crucial stage of the lighting project with pupils working on developing their final solution. This is a challenging part of the course so CAD modelling and the production of a styrofoam model will help determine the size, proportion, aesthetics and constructional understanding for the final solution.

Y11 Pupil progress
Pupils are now working towards completing 3 sheets of initial ideas. Each design sheet should have; a source of inspiration so that pupils can generate a wide variety of possible solutions; client comment is highlighted by a small green box to indicate evaluative comment throughout the folio; colour is used to enhance the appearance and identify surface finish.

Lamp Design
GCSE Res Mat - Major Project 08/09
Work has already started on the lighting project for the current Y10 pupils. Most are currently working through the research section; producing a mood board, looking at completeing their existing solutions page, researching types of lights, interviewing clients, recording the disassembly of a lamp or considering safety aspects of the project. The interim assessment for the completion of this work will be the 6th June 08.

This work of Luke's demonstartes several excellent aspects. Firstly the sheet is busy, with lots of designs and detailed annotation. He has also used colour well and has identified the source of inspiration for his work. The text highlighted in green is comments made by his client - this suggests a real and live project!
